Speaking of amazing women on film, Samin Nosrat just released a Netflix series based on her book and Elise and I love, love, love it. I, for one, watched this series and could not get over seeing someone who looked like me play a leading role in a Netflix show (not to mention hosting in three languages). Watching her on film gave me the strange sensation of being represented in mainstream media… I mean, how often do you see women of middle eastern descent on film??
Not only that, she came into food at one of my favorite restaurants, Chez Panisse (Berkeley represent!). Hoping to see more from her!
We’re also loving Emma, cartoonist and IT engineer with a loud voice. Unafraid to take on workplace and family politics, her cartoons touch on real problems in society. If you’re a French-speaker, check out her interview on the podcast 'La Poudre'. She also has a book!
