It’s important to acknowledge that we all struggle, at some point, with self-acceptance. To allow ourselves room to be self-critical, to feel angry at things we cannot change about ourselves. Not because we should wallow in self-pity, or feel powerless to change, but because these are legitimate feelings and pretending they don’t exist gets us exactly nowhere. The fact is, bodies are messy. They are imperfect and they change in ways we wish they wouldn’t, and also, they do all kinds of amazing things. Things like running up mountains, carrying us through our days, creating life, giving voice to our innermost thoughts. Living in a body is a privilege, and whether we move easily through the world in our bodies or not, it’s important to accept conflicting feelings as part of the package.
